The right-wing coalition led by the far-right party Brothers of Italy seems set to win Italy’s snap general elections, with leader Giorgia Meloni widely expected to form the new government and become the country's first female prime minister.
Four years ago, her party attracted little more than 4% of the vote in the last general election and yet she's now in pole position to win, with a possible quarter of the vote. Backed by two other parties, the League and Forza Italia, polls suggest she is heading for a majority coalition in Italy's two houses of parliament.
"For me I think the people of Italy are happy that Giorgia Meloni has won the place of Prime Minister" Says Pier-Albain
"How did the country, emerging from two years of COVID-19 pandemic restrictions and struggling with rising inflation and a cost-of-living crisis exacerbated by the war in Ukraine, get to this result? And what does this tell us about Italy’s future?" Asks Flavio
Enjoy School World News waits to see how this will impact Italy, France and Europe in the future.
